At Home Acne Treatment

Dermatologists are all too happy to write drug prescriptions for their acne suffering patients. What they don't tell you is that at home acne treatment can be just as effective and a whole lot cheaper, and with no nasty side effects. Follow the steps below to see your way to clearer skin.

Be gentle!

The first step in acne control is clean skin. Wash face morning and night with a gentle cleanser. Don't rub, pull, scratch or tug. Doing so will only exacerbate the problem. Use your hands, not a washcloth.

Flush it Out!

You wash your face, but what about the toxins polluting your skin from the inside? Cleansing not just the outside, but also the inside is an essential part of at home acne treatment.

Drink water.

Your body is 70 percent water, and if you're not drinking enough of it, then things aren't going to work properly. Take your body weight in pounds, divide by 2. That is how many ounces of water you should be drinking every day. Water nourishes and flushes waste from every cell in the body. Not drinking enough water can lead to constipation which causes toxins to stay in your body and contribute to breakouts.

Eat fiber.

Fiber helps to maintain proper pH in your intestines, remove toxic waste from your colon, and prevent constipation. All excellent things for your skin. Make sure you are getting enough fiber in your diet.

High fiber foods include:

lentils, broccoli, brown rice, black and lima beans, oats, barley, whole wheat pasta, dark green leafy vegetables, carrots, green peas, pears, apples, oranges, dates, apricots, nuts and seeds.
(A food needs to contain 5 or more grams of fiber per serving to be deemed high fiber. The American Heart Association recommends an intake of 20 to 35 grams of fiber each day).

Feed your skin from the inside.

Diet plays a huge part in the health of our organs, and skin is the largest organ in the body. A well balanced diet will do wonders in improving your skin's health and appearance.

Don't touch!

This can spread bacteria and lead to more pimples, as well as scarring. Picking can also irritate and inflame the eruption, sometimes even causing it to go deeper and swell underneath the skin. Not a good way to clear acne! Besides picking, be careful not to touch your face during the day, as you will be adding bacteria from everything you've touched--from stairwell banisters to elevator buttons and public restroom door handles, and more!-- to your face. Clean your phone with alcohol regularly.

Remember that any acne treatment will take some time to see major results. There is no magic bullet that will work overnight, but if you approach your skin care in a holistic, healthy manner, you can actually treat the source of the problem and really get rid of acne for good.
